Default 25-06 bullet what do you think?

well, guys I just fired my last factory 25-06 round this morning, ( I do have 3 left) dropping a buck in his tracks, and I am now going to start reloading for it. My question is I bought a box of 120 gr partitons for it, but after seeing the way this 115 gr Win ball. silertip worked Im wondering, if I should use them instead? Entrance hole was exact bullet size, and exit hole was just barely big enough to fit my pinky in. (I didnt hit bone). What bullets do you guys reload with, and what powders work with them, just trying to pick yalls brains for a load for me to try.

I have been using SWIFT A-Frame 120 gr bullets for several years in my 257 AI ,it's almost as fast. A little more $ but a great proforming bullet.
Next year the 25 cal 115 gr Swift Scirocco should be out ,I plan on trying them out.

I'm using the 120 grain Partitions in my 25-06 and I'm getting very good accuracy using 49 grains of IMR 4350. My chronographed muzzle velocity for this load is 3008 FPS. I believe the Nosler philosopy for the Partition is that some bullet fragmentation is desireable since it opens up additional wound channels. This helps in shots that are not perfectly placed. Works for me.

I'm currently using a Speer 120gr Spitzer in front of 49grns of IMR4350 in my 25.06 and it's very accurate in my rifle. I killed 2 deer with it last year and 4 this year and only one has taken a step after the shot and he went about 20yds.

I was using the Barnes 100 gr X bullet , but found a deal on 10 boxes of 115 gr X bullet so I guess that will be my new bullet . Haven't worked out a load yet .

I use the 115 gr. partition and the 115 gr. Ballistic tip. I like the B-Tip better on deer in my area. In my area a mature buck will go between 120-140#'s field dressed. The B-tip seems to usually drop them where they stand. I swith to the Partition when I'm hunting feral hogs. I have killed some Boar's in excess of 300#. The B-tip is made to expand quickly and the partition is made so the front portion of the bullet expands quickly while the shank drives on through for penetration. Both are excellent for their intended purposes. You will notice that the B-tip is less expensive to purchase. As for powders I like H4831, IMR4831, H4350, IMR435, & RL19. I use H4831 the most and gain the best
3 shot groups with H4831.

I believe the 25-06 is at its best with 100 grain bullets. I load the 100 grain Partition for big game and the 100 grain ballistic tip for varmits. If I had to use it for elk then I would load the 120 grain Partition. This would depend of course on how the shoot in your rifle. At one time there were not many good bullets for the 25-06. Thats is no longer the case and most bullets mentioned here should perform well. Good Luck. I love the 25's I have the Roberts, the 250 Savage and the 25-06. Just sold a 257 Weatherby. Burned out the barrel before I got smart enough to turn down the speed a bit.
