ok so I have hunted with my new Savage 300 rum for 6 days and after loading/unloading it 6 times (blind mag) I have noticed that I have feeding problems. The problem is with the second shot, If I cycle the bolt and eject the first shot, the second will not feed into the chamber unless I take my palm and slam the bolt forward. I took it to my gunsmith today and he said because of the long case that the casing is getting hung up on the top curved part of the mag (the part that actually holds the shell down in the mag) Its only the second shot, in a staggered mag its the only one that sits on the "left" looking down at it. He said that brownells makes a mag conversion for guns that makes all 3 shots center feed, but of course not for a 300 rum. Hes going to try to clean the edge of my mag up with a stone to get it to feed better, but does anyone have this problem, or suggestions as to how to fix it? With the way my gun is acting a second shot is nearly impossible.
*side note I used factory and handloads just to make sure it wasnt something in my resizing process.
Mossy, can't say I have any feeding problems out of my 700's. Might want to check to see if you are loading too long. You want some play in the mag. A long case like this should have no problems feeding even with the sharp shoulders.
