Default 180 gr xtp in .35 rem?

Has any one tried loading hornady .357 180gr xtp's in a 35 rem? I have tried 158gr jhp's, and they are great on pests around the farm, but I don't think they will hold together enough for deer. Would the xtp's ?

Default RE: 180 gr xtp in .35 rem?

I have ,with mixed luck .The 180 gr xtp is NOT desined for top 35 rem vel. .The bullet is designed for 357 mag and 357 max . I am not home so I can not check recomended max Impact velosity ,but the 35 rem is faster . I shot a buck several years ago with a wildcat 357 carterage in a TC barrel and had the bullet frag. after 4" of peneration. It looked like a handgernade went off in the lungs. I then checked and found the max velosity in the front of Hornady loading book.
I know shoot the 35 cal ssp bullet this bullet has taken many deer from 30 yds to 200 yds
