Probably wouldn't make a hill of beans difference with a 270. Unless you load really hot like 3100fps for a 130gr bullet. I usually load 4064 or 4350 and really exceed 2850fps.

Lots of reports of BT's having some separation/fragmentation failures on quartering or solid bone hits when used in calibers .30 and below and above 3,000fps velocity. Supposedly the larger diameters and bullets of 180 grains up are made with thicker jackets to avoid this problem. Below that the BT's are basically large varmint bullets. With a .270 I'd play it safe and go with the premium.

They're both OK for deer, but if the day ever comes that you want to shoot an elk, moose, or big bear, the Accubond will be better. So if you start with the Accubond from the beginning, nothing changes when you go after bigger game than deer.

I would absolutely stear clear of the .338 ballistic tips for anything bigger than deer. I've read the smaller caliber ballistic tips have heavier jackets--but I have no personal experience. For deer, I'd would use whichever shot the best. By the way, the accubonds and ballistic tips in 7mm 140g appear to shoot to the same point of impact- you might get the opportunity to sight in for both and do some experimenting--which is the best of all worlds! Let us know your results.

Most responders have already said what I would say. The BT is a great bullet for anchoring white tail deer, IF you have a clean shot at the heart/lung area. The way that the bullet breaks up, it really does put deer down, when you hit them in the boileroom. A couple years back, Dicks Sporting was selling out of reload components, so I bought some BTs and loaded same. They did hammer white tail deer, however, in my area of Maryland, I do not encounter any deer over 200lbs. and most are closer to 100lbs. I would not recommend BTs for deer larger then 200lbs. Go with the Accubond and stick with that. Accubonds will give you the penetration that you need to cleanly kill larger deer.

Actually the larger caliber ballistic tips have thicker jackets, especially the 180gr-308" and larger calibers.I just killed my sixth elk with the 180gr ballistic tip out of my 300ultramag and again bullet performance was great.I have also killed two bull moose ,one over 1200lbs with the same bullet.A friend of mine killed a very large bull moose with the 200gr ballistic tip out of his 338win mag with great results.Another case of actual experience differring greatly from the rumours concerning ballistic tips.
