Default reloading 300 short action ultra mag

i need all your guys input... im going to Alaska in sept. and i just purchased this gun.. its a 300 Remington short action ultra mag... the model is a Remington model 7 with a 22" barrel.. im thinking some where around 165 grain tip.. i need help on what you guys think for what kind of powder, how much powder, what kind or wieght bullet.. anything you can think that would help me out... sorry i forgot to mention that i am hunting Moose, Caribou... again thanks

I would go with a 180 partition for this cartridge. Good choices in powder would be Rel 22 and H4350 . I am willing to bet H4350 will be the best in that cartridge. Have you looked at www.shortmags.org..lots of load data there.

I have loaded a fair amount for the .300 SAUM. My favorite load - which has been developed for Elk but would be perfectly suitable for Moose is as follows:

Barnes 168 gr. Triple Shock
46.5 grains of Varget
Winchester WLRM primer
Cartridge overall length 2.82
Chronographed velocity - 2975 fps
Groups .75 at 100 yards

This is a nice accurate load with plenty of kill power for Moose.

If you are not familiar with the Barnes bullets, take a look at their site. You can easily go a bit lighter on bullet weight due to the weight retention of their copper bullet design.
