Default 30-06 to 25-06

I have a quantity of 270 and 30-06 brass. I would like to run it into a full length die and resize it into 25-06 casings. Have any of you done that or anything similar? Is it worth the effort? I know I will have to trim for length, but do you think I will also have to reduce the case neck thickness? Any thoughts appreciated.

I toyed with the idea of running 308 Win brass through 243 Win dies until I discovered I would have to turn the case necks to get it to chamber. I am sure you would have a similar problem with 30-06 to 25-06. Not worth the effort if you ask me. Besides, I like cases with the proper headstamp. Sometimes it helps prevent accidents.

I've made a lot of cases for the .25-06 from .30-06 without serious trouble. The real issue is that the correct cases for .25-06 can be purchased from many places for about .25 cents each and frankly there's not much justification for resizing the .30-06 cases.

You can do it but it may not be worth it in the end run.

Remember that .270 cases are .045 too long for the .25-06.

Yes you can make 25-06 out of 270 and 30-06 . Yes you will probably have to trim the cases ,I trim beforeloading new cases anyway. A few things use plenty of lube , dents on shoulders will come out with the first firing and run the 30-06 cases into a 270 or 280 fl sizing die before the 25-06 fl sizing die. You will end up with a nicer looking end product and less lose . I don't have the time so I would just buy 25-06 cases but if you have the time and not the $$$ go for it.

When I got my first .25/'06, I made 40 cases from .30/'06 brass I had laying around, and it was easy. One trip thru the FL sizing die, trim, prime, load. You have to measure neck thickness after sizing, to make sure it is not too thick to safely release the bullet. If it is too thick, then of course, neck turning is necessary. Mine were not, but some may be. So check this out. Otherwise, it is no problem using either '06 or .270 cases for the .25/'06 - a really fine round, BTW!!

If you have the extra brass go for it, I am all for utilizing left over components safely. You might as well turn the necks it will decrease your overall cartridge runout. Good luck.

if all that 270 and 30-06 brass is all once fired if you clean them up with your brass tumbler and bag them up by the 50 count you might beable to trade them at a gun store for once fired 25-06 brass, thats what I do here after a day at the range and Pick up tons of brass from what i dont use I clean them up and trade them for what I need.
