Default 1917 Eddystone

I am a handloader and am thinking about customizing my 1917 eddystone. I am currently thinking 6.5 - 06. Any opinions on this caliber for hunting/reloading?

The 6.5-06 will work very well in your Eddystone...it'll be a might heavy and replacing the barrel is a nasty job...many Eddystones suffer cracked receivers when barrels are replaced. This also happens to the p-17 Winchesters and Remingtons as well but to a much lesser rate.

Make sure your smith knows about this and has access to a magniflux device to detect cracks.

There's a whale of a lot of work involved in sporterizing an Enfield...if you must hire it done it'll cost more than a new rifle.

I have one of those but mine is chambered in 303 British. The 6.5-o6 is a very capable cartridge which it about equal in performance to the 270. I would also hesitate to put to much into sporterizind the Eddiestone. I bought my first one of those in 30-06 for 17.00 including tax. Many Years ago. Army surplus store.
