I am going to start loading for my 243. I was wondering if anyone knows a really good Hot load that is a little above max but still safe. I will start out light and work my way up to this. I was just wondering what a good load is! Thanks

i have loaded above max on a few things my .243 win, my .270 win, and my .300 wm
the only one i have got anything out of was my .300 wm and that was not much
the .243 and .270 all got worse on paper they did well in noslers mid range loads

Ok sorry. Lemme try this! Does anyone know a good consistent hard hitting 243 load that works well on deer!

I have had good luck with these 2
IMR 4350 (40.5 gr) and nosler 100 gr partition
RL 22 (41 gr) and 100 gr partition
they are for my wifes .243 and she gets 1.5 moa at 100 yards great for antelope and muleys i am sure they would take out a whitetail also
however i will for warn you what shoots great in on rifle can be a total different ball game in another
i would suggest you get the reloading manual for the bullets you want to shoot and work up a load for yourself it is more fun to know you worked it on your own
if you need a page or two of loading info from nosler or speer shoot me an email and i scan one for you

NO! But let me qualify that. NO LOAD THAT IS ABOVE MAX FOR YOUR INDIVIDUAL RIFLE IS SAFE TO FIRE IN THAT RIFLE! However, just because a particular loading manual says some such load or the other is max., doesn't mean it is max in your gun! It might be max., under max., or dangerously over max., IN YOUR GUN!!!
The only way you'll be able to find this out is by developing the load, 1/2 a grain increase at a time, in your own rifle!! If you use some data that works in somebody else's gun to go "over max" in your rifle, you are a fool!!

if you need to ask for advice for an overmax load then havent been reloading long enough to do so. Overloading is a risky business and should not be lightly. I did it in some .357mag, but that was with lil'gun that gives low pressures to start with and I had another 10,000cup above my loads to get into the real max of a .357mag in a large framed handgun. accuracy dropped off fast though and i went back to the published max.

save the world, reload your brass
the .243 with good 100 grain bullets is totally and completely adequate for taking whitetail deer (and a lot more) as-is!
Use any reputable reloading manual and develope a load.....chances are you'll end up about 3000'/sec.....if you achieve 3,200'/sec your gain will be insignificant.....Even at 2,800'/sec it'll be totally adequate for deer.
If you really want a faster 6MM get a .240 Weatherby.....but it still won't kill deer deader or faster than a .243 Winchester loaded to reasonable pressures.
