Default Reduced Loads for .30-06?

I want to back the load down some for target practice with the .30-06 (Ruger Mark II). I've seen a couple of formulas and would appreciate any experience you pros have had. I'm using 150 gr. FMJ and IMR 4064.

Thanks.

are these loads for a competition or just to shoot at the range for fun?

In my experience there is a curve o accuracy starting with a starting load and working up to max the groups shrink some where in the mid range and then start to open up again as they approch max. So while a starting load might be fun to shoot it probbably wont win any competitions.

I'm going to work on shooting and action-handling technique, especially from sitting, at ranges to 100 - 150 yards. Don't want to wear out the barrel or my shoulder.

I doubt you could shoot the barrell out in your life time, but your shoulder on the other hand ...

I use 48 gr of 4064 this is a little above mid range in the reloading manual but not bad to shoot ( 165 gr BTSP)

You should look it up though as well as any data given here as you don't know the source from the original Adam

for just fun shooting with the .30-06 use a 125-130 grain bullet and 44 grains of IMR 4064

It's about 2700'/sec but a fairly pleasant load to shoot. I like the Nosler BTs for this.

Here is a reduced load from the "Speer Reloading Manual #12" for the 30-06 SPRG. using a 150 gr. .308 Dia. Speer bullet. Powder: IMR SR 4759 MIN: 20.0 grs. Vel: 1620 f/s; MAX: 24 grs. Vel: 1957 f/s. Good luck.

I pretty much use what NE Hunter uses for a light load- 47.5 Gr 4064 and a 165-168 gr bullet. Very accurate in my '03 springfield, and the recoil is mild enough to shoot all day.
