Default Accubond OAL

Although I have read that some fellows think the AccuBond likes a bit of "jump" I was doubtful. I have been pounding it out on the range testing different OAL for AccuBond loads and surprisingly have gotten consistently better results loading a bit further from the lands than I normally do.

The aggs I have been getting at .075" off the lands are better than any other loads in my rifles. I shot three different rifles with increments of .005" and each of them seemed to like .075" the best.

I do not understand the reason it worked that way but that is the way it is for these rifles. I load mono-metal bullets with a long jump for best results but normally I find that loading close to the lands works best with jacketed lead core bullets. Whatever the reason I would suggest trying loads with a bit of jump with the AccuBond.

That surprises me - I've always done well with NAB's near the lands, 20thou or less jump, even kissing. I'm looking to spool up a load for my wife's 7RM, might have to give that a try.

I like a bit of jump, get higher velocity and if you keep runout to a minimum they shoot great. for example my 7mm AM runs a 160 accubond at 3575 fps if jammed .004", runs them 3720 with the same charge .030" off and no measureable difference in accuracy. my 6.5 gibbs shows the same advantage with 140 bergers, 3160 vs 3280

I shoot Ballistic Tip bullets close to the lands for best results in each of the same three rifles used in my shooting of the AccuBond. I expected the results of the AB to be similar to the BT but somehow it just did not work out that way. I shot groups with the trusted BT loads each day I was doing the AB tests as a control.

Other than the bonded core I think the bullet shape and construction is about the same on both types of bullets. I am at a loss to explain this but the calipers tell the story.

The explanation may be extraterrestrial alien involvement, a trick of the light, or magic.
