45-70 Bullets.
I have a 1895 straight stock Marlin 45-70 rifle. I had problems with it for a while. It was scratching the casings so bad that after 10 rounds or so the brass filings and stuff were gumming up the action and it would not feed. I think I have it fixed although there is some scratching left yet. Do you think this gun is a good candidate for cast bullets? If so who makes a good hard cast bullet for the 45-70? I have only used the 350 grain Hornady jacketed bullet so far in all my 45-70 of which I have had five or so. Two Marlins, a Sharps replica and a no 1 and no. 3 ruger. I am thinking of picking up another NEF single shot of which I had one of those before also. This one would be for Black Powder loads mostly. Any advise would be welcome. I do know that the Hornady 350 grain Round nose it a real game stopper and will take out anything with four legs.
