Default Help!!

I was reloading some 30-06 today and I ran into a problem (using a lee reloader and RCBS Dies). I was decaping/resizing and they were a tight fit. I have not been doing this a real long time but this seems to not be uncommon with all casses. Well after the up stroke, at the begining of the down stroke the rim of the case broke off so there is nothing to grab onto to pull it out. Now the case is stuck inside of the die. I have tried using a pair of plyiers to pull it out but there is not enough of the case to grab onto. I pulled the center section of the die out through the top and put a screwdriver in from the top and tried to tap the case out, but it just pushed through the case. I am all out of ideas on what to do. I need some help. Please throwout some ideas. Any ideas.

Thanks

Chris

Check the RCBS Site. I have not had this happen, but I think you can send the dies to them and they will remove it. I would not put anything into the die as It might cause you future problems. Check with RCBS.

return the die to RCBS and they will repair it free. In the Future use a good lube on the case. I really like a spray lube from Lyman...but I think all reloading companys have one. Lots of folks like Hornady' s " one shot" spray lube.

I was using lube. Not sure what kind it was, but I must of not have been putting enough on. Thanks for the help. I will try and get ahold of RCBS and see what they say.

Use a lube make especially for resiozing cases. i use the RCBS lube, but there are others that are as good or better.

Chris, It sounds like you didn' t have a clean, lubed inside neck when you tried to pull the expander thru the neck. I' ve never separated a case that way, but I have had some difficulty extracting the expander till I started making sure I got some of the spray lube, like Hornady' s, inside the neck. You can also get a case neck brush set that uses mica as a lube if you want.

One of the best lubes for external use is Imperial Die Wax, but that too does not get inside the neck. Is does make for easy neck sizing or major resizing, and a can lasts forever.

Finally, since you did have a case separation, have you examined the cases to see if they are showing signs of major stretching above the base? Just a thought.

The one time I had the problem you describe, it was with 30-06 as well. The fault lied on my part - insufficient case lube. I ended up backing the expander ball off as far as I could and drilling out the primer pocket, then tapped it to accept either a 1/4" or 5/16" fine thread bolt. Using washers as spacers I threaded the bolt into the former primer pocket. The bolt acted like a puller when it bottomed out against the stack of washers; when I turned the bolt in with a wrench it pulled the case right out.
