What' s the deal?
Can someone answer a question for me?
Please, no guesses.
I just took out an old sporterized .30-06 Mauser and fired it at the range. I inherited this rifle from my father when he passed away. It had been tucked away for a number of years. It was fine when last used, cleaned and put away. I " dusted it off" and fired the ten rounds of Federal ammunition I had also gotten with it.
When I fired the ten rounds, three of the casings had little " slots" blown thru them up from the rim just a little bit. The other seven were normal in appearance. The three with blow holes also had three or four cracks (running from back/front) approx 1/8th inch on the necked dwn area.
Is this because the ammo (brass) was old or something? Got me.
I don' t want to take any chances with just heading back out (with a new more powerful scope-existing scope is an old Galaxy) with some known new ammo and firing away.
Anyone?
