My first post here. I been looking for a firearm forum that wasn't all about Black rifles with hundreds of interchangeable parts.
So to the question.
I have a Winchester Model 1895 in 30-40 Krag. I will be hunting with it on dry days as a way to honor my dad who I stood next to in when he bought it at a gunshow.
To that end I am trying to locate some reloading data based on the 1895 and not the Old Krag military rifle. All the loads in the books have a MAX CUP of 40K which is based on the week Krag rifle. Yet the model 1895 was also chambered in 30-06 50K+CUP.
SO has anyone ventured beyond the safety margin of the Krag loads?
I'm specifically looking at Noslers 150 and 180gr BT's as their longer length/weight ratio will help get that oglive closer to the lands in the 30-40 chamber (measured to be just under .250 from the case neck)
The rifle is in excellent mechanical condition and has shot nice 3" groups with 180gr Rem Coreloks bought in 1969! Its been to the range 3-4 times. I'm also going to turn a peep sight insert for it that .190" hole is like looking through a barn door rather then a sight.
