Default Best load for a Ruger MarkII .280

Was wanting to know the ultimate load for .280 out of this rifle. Which brass, bullets, powder and so on. Thanks

There is no 'one size fits all' for reloading in different rifles. But here is an example: Remington brass and cci primers, alliant RL22 powder, and hornady 154gr SSTs. With some testing you could use that for paper, deer, elk. If you're into long range targets the 162 amax would be my first choice. You will have to experiment with your own COAL and powder charge, but once you find your combo, it's game on--and that testing might only include a few combos. I often run my bullets seated at the rifling with a max load (the usual cautions of approaching maximum charges should be followed). I've seen some awfully accurate m77s, and the 280 is a great round.

In my 280 Ruger MarkII, I use Hornady 154gr. SST's, IMR 4350 powder, CCI primers, and Remington cases. I also seat the bullets to almost touching the rifleing with a max load like Big Z says. But like Big Z also said work up to the max load and use caution. This is a great combo for the 280 Rem., I have shot deer, elk, and bear with the 154gr. Hornady, a great all arround bullet.

139 gr Interlock spire point ahead of a heavy load of H4350, Remy brass and Winchester primers. Every rifle is different but my A-bolt shoots em great and performance on deer has been excellent.

I've used the same load in a M77 and Rem. 700. H4350, CCI primer, Rem. brass and 160 gr. Speer Mag Tip for deer or 160 gr. Nosler Partition for bigger critters.

I load 140 gr Noslers in Win brass with CCI primers for medium game. I have had good luck with a couple of different powders, but keep going back to IMR 4350. I have killed a few elk with a 160 NP.
