Default Speer BTSP

Hello to everyone and Merry Christmas,
I was looking at the Speer Website and was wondering what's the difference between the Hot Core bullets the BTSP's? They're listed in in seperate catagories and besides the boattail I don't know if the construction of the bullets is different. Thanks for the replies.

The hot core is made with molten lead poured into the jacket to help eliminate jacket/core separation. Basically it acts much like a bonded bullet. I have fired hot core bullets into wet sand and the lead remained attached to the jacket.

The regular BTSP is nothing more than a standard cup and core bullet.

Thanks for the reply, Do you think the BTSP would be too fragile for a 300 Weatherby? I used 165 SST's and they didn't hold up very well on a antelope at 170 yards. Thanks again. PaLuke

I've used Speer BTSP for 30 years. They hold up in elk and bears so I'm sure they will hold up on an antelope. Plus the BC of the 165 gr BTSP is .530 it flies like a match bullet and retains a lot of energy down range. I'm sure there's better constructed bullets out there but there's absolutely nothing wrong with a Speer BTSP. I can testify after 30 years I've never had one come apart on an animal. Most pass through the animal under 350 yards. Some are not into pass through's but it shows one thing the bullet is staying together and driving deep. Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned but one thing I do know they do work and I'm a second generation user. The amount of animals my father has taken with a Speer BTSP can more than testify to what I'm saying. Trust me experience beats the untested.

I shoot a Speer BTSP 165gr in a 300 WM at 3180 fps and also 130gr BTSP in a 270 win over 3200 fps and they both hold together at those speeds.

Black elk what powder are you pushing those 130's out of your .270? I have some .270 130 gr. hotcore that I reloaded and they shot well with the old standby 60 grs of H4831 sc. I never tried them on game. WOuld like to hear if anyone has used them .
