run'em about 2950-3000 fps with H4350, personaly I prefer the 140 bergers, you don't need an accubond at 3000 fps MV

Yup, and it wouldn't be all that bad if you held up at 2,800 too! That's still a devastating load.....find a Hornady interlock!

N-165 is the go to powder for the bench rest guys in the 6.5X284. I know it really makes my 6.5X284 sing with a 140 grain bullet. Tom.

I have read that you don't want to shoot deer with the matchkings, is this right? For targets they are deadly accurate, just didn't know if they would open up on a deer, I have a lot of these loaded now.

I wouls use matchkings on deer, but they would be at least 338 diameter, terminal performance is just to inconsistant to use them in small calibers.
They are almost identicle to the lapua scenars in design, and I have shot one deer with the lapua's in 6.5, and will never shoot another one with them, the deer never got out of its bed, but performance was terrible.

Won't steer too far from the OP but those of you with 6.5 x .284 can I ask, are these in long action rifles or short. I have a short action Remington .260 that is a prime candidate but there are two things I'd want to know. Will the SA handle the longer 140 gr. VLD type bullets and is there enough fps gain to warrant the cost of rechamber ?

In my 22" barreled .260 Rem I shoot 140 gr. SSTs and they will go 2700 fps but not more. That is why I asked.

well you case capacity is basicly set by how long you have the bullets seated, so in a short action you use up alot of case capacity storing the bullet.
without a 26-28" barrel you won't get near 2950 fps from a 6.5/284.
If your not shooting 600+ yards why bother? especialy by rechambering a factory barrel?
