1} buy the kit
2) whichever you can afford now, you can always upgrade
3) if you want the equipment to give trouble free service for a lifetime go RCBS, I've heard alot of reports of lee presses breaking.

I tell ya, the RCBS rockchucker kit most of what you need.

Most kits of anything these days, about half of it you can use, and other half you replace.

I still use my RCBS powder thrower, my beam scale, my press, my deburrer, my trimmer (but I hate too, not sure much better out there.). Only thing I don't use is the lube pad.

If all you want is the bare basics at the cheapest price to get started trying it, you can get away with the kit.

If you want to buy stuff you will want to continue using, identify exactly what you need and buy the right stuff. If you buy a kit and reload any amount, it will not be long before you wish you had better of some of the items.

In general, I find RCBS to be of higher quality than Lee. However, I like my Lee priming tool and pistol dies just fine. For rifle cases, I consider RCBS to be good enough for 95% of people. Most people do not own good enough rifles to notice the difference in dies between RCBS and higher quality like Redding Competition.

Digital scales are fine if you get a good one. Do not get a cheap one or you will be frustrated. Better a balance scale than a cheap digital.

When I started, I bought a lee kit , the only thing i still use is the press and the auto prime tool . I found a digital scale is way easier to use and more accurate than the beam scale, and I prefer dippers to the powder measurer.

Lee works good and is cheap, but you can just tell the quality difference in RCBS. I've broken a lee die and a lee press and didn't want to pay for shipping and repairs [to experience another breakdown down the road], so I replaced them with green stuff . So far, I've had one problem with an RCBS product and they shipped me replacement parts first class, free of charge, no questions asked.

I'll still buy Lee stuff for little things, but RCBS definitely has its place. Presses and dies for sure.

Even small things, like the set screw in the nut on an RCBS die, make them a lot more user-friendly.

The only die I ever broke was a Lee, no identifiable user error.

seeing you got the kit you answered that question, I think it's the right way to go though. You can add different components as you go along, I would recommend a lee hand prime tool (I think they are great and they work really well except for mag and then you have to open them up). Once you get going I would also recommend a rcbs charge master, worth every penny of the 300 I spent for it.

If your going for a kit get the RCBS. If you buy separately and getting a single stage press then check out the Lee Classic press. It is made as heavy and as good as any of them.
