A golf course is a willful and deliberate misuse of a perfectly good rifle range.
Probably less then Re-22 then? Just wondering because I heard people are using it in .243 AI's and its suppose to be a cooler burning powder to try and save the barrel a little bit...

But I am really starting to love RL22. Just seems to love to be ran hot.
My love affair with re-22 is over, great powder but you rework the load every time ya change lot #'s, last lot change my Gibbs went from 3340 fps w/61 gr behind a 140 to 3200 fps with the same charge.
Jeep, to extend barrel life the ball powders have the lowest flame temp, but they are the most temp sensative, but temp. sensativity can be dealt with.
I shoot a very temp sensative mil-surp ball powder called WC-872 in my 7mm AM, its used for deer hunting only so I practice and hunt in about the same conditions, I don't try to shoot it in the summer. is it worth it? here is what I did to find out
A max load of H-1000 in my stw after 3 shots the barrel is too hot to hold in your hand. The load clocked 3550 fps with a 140 gr.
I worked up a max load with the WC-872, had to use a 160 cause its just too slow for the 140's, but it chronied 3340 fps, shot 3 shots the barrel was just warm, it has to be easier on throats. But I understand if you wanna shoot under all conditions, to do this with ball powders, ya need a summer load and a winter load. the MV's don't seem to change awhole lot till it gets hot {+70°}.
this had been my results

I thought this was just me. I had the same thing with RL25.
My load of 22 shoots great, but out here during deer season it could be 90+ degrees one week and the next it could be snowing...
The 22 seems to be pretty cool, I can shoot 3 shots pretty quick then touch the barrel and it will be barely even warm...
I was reading about that 6CM (.243 with a slight shoulder increase) and they are getting 3000+ rounds out of it with H1000...

Jeep,
thats about the right barrel life with a 243 if its well cared for. a buddy of mine got 2500 from his first 6.5 Gibbs barrel, I have a couple 70's vintage 6mm's, a 600 mohawk, and a lh 788 6mm rem, hate to say how many rounds have been put through them.
BC,
from my experience and what I've read re22 is worse than 25 as far as lot to lot varience, shoots well, shoots fast, but just not what I'm looking for in a LR propellant.
I had a good load with H1000 for the 6.5 but I got 60 feet more MV with re22, and I was way above max with H1000, but saw less pressure than re22, will bring the H1000 load out of mothballs this summer.
