30-30 bullets in a .308?
So, I go hog hunting year-round, and my longest shot so far has been not much over 100 yards. I'm using a .308, and at that range it would seem that I don't really need a bullet traveling at 2,700+ fps. I'm wondering how shooting a reduced load with a 30-30 bullet might work. The 30-30 bullets are designed to expand at lower velocities.
I'm thinking that loading a 170 grain bullet for a muzzle velocity of no more than 2,400 fps would give sufficient power.
Questions:
1) Does this concept seem fundamentally reasonable?
2) Anyone have load data for a .308 with a 170 grain bullet?
3) Should I just interpolate data from 165 and 180 grain bullets?
I'm thinking 3) would normally be a bad idea, but since I'm looking at a pretty reduced load perhaps it would be okay.
