Default 30-06 reloading question

Just wondering if anyone has a good recomendation for a good load for 30-06. was wanting to stay around 160grn. to 170grn. Maybe BTHP or spitzer point. Any suggestions

Had to go look, it's been so long since I loaded any.

My "favorite" in the weight range you specify is a 165 Hornady BTSP (interlock) over 57.0 gr of IMR4350 in a Winchester case with CCI 200 primer. It chrono'ed at 2807 fps

Your rifle may prefer a different load, however. I send these downrange through an older M700.

NO matter what primer or bullet you choose for whatever reason the IMR and H -4350 seems to be the choice and usually the most accurate for the entire class of 06' based cartridges..if I had only one powder for everything I own it would be H-4350.. it always seems to work and is usually the most accurate or right at the top of accuracy in all my rifls..

I have been loading 59 grains of RL17 under 168 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips, with CCI200 primers. Groups are consistenly between 5/8 and 7/8" and velocities are 3012 FPS. My OAL is 3.41 and according to quickload this load is around 64,500 psi. This is a load for a bolt action

Hard to go wrong with H4350 or IMR4350. With H4350 my current favorite load is 58 grs with 165 gr. Hornady Interbonds, Fed210M primer in Lapua brass. With IMR4350 I like 56 grs. and 165 gr. Ballistic Tips and again the Fed210M and Lapua brass. I load both of these bullets .020" off the lands and get sub 1" groups.

Pick up the annual Hodgdon reloading manual. Its well worth the money and has a great assortment of loads and powders.
