RE: speer handloads
I have used them in the 35rem BB ammo and I get only 2080fps in my 18.5" barreled 35rem. What do you want to use them on? And in what cartridge?
For deer I have found them to expand too slow and too little but they do work. The best 35rem deer bullet is the rem 200 CLRN for quick expantion and weight retension. And their used in 358wins alot for deer.
But the Speer 220gr is great for bear big hogs, elk ,and moose. Guys on the Alaskan Forums say they work great on moose from their 35rems. This a great bullet for the bigger than deer stuff because it expands to a smaller dia and is heavier so it has serious penitrating power. It is perfect for the 356win and has taken grizzly and buffalo for one Nosler form poster.
I load the 200gr REM CLRN to 2188fps and it has served me well for deer and hogs. For say a 300-500lb bear I am flipping on which would be better but for elk/moose its the 220gr hot core because of its penitration.
If you reload the 220 HC FN I would say its good for any cartridge or velocty under 2450fps so it good for the 35em/356win/358win/350rem/35whelen if you keep the velocity in check on the larger cartridges.
The other speer option is their 180gr hot core FN I would use H322 and keep them between 2300 to 2400 fps because they have the expantion porperties.
Also check out northwoods 35 whelen web sight. Everything a 35cal guy needs to read great site.
