Default primer question

My father inlaw used to reload all his 12ga shells but hasn'e done it for about 10-15 years. Well we've got back into shooting trap alot the last few weeks and are gonna start reloading all our emptys. He still has all the equipment and im trying to get together a list of supplies. He says he still has a ton of primers but he's not sure if they would be any good since they may be 15 years old or so. What do you guys think, any good still? Thanks

If they were stored properly they would be okay . Just be sure to match them to the correct recipe .

Cool thank you! Now, we'll be getting supplies at Cabelas. You got a good recipe for sporting clays that could be bought their?

These are loads I use to compete with back in the day using a Winchester AA hull.I substitued a Claybuster wad that was a knock off of the WAA12 & WAA12SL. They worked great. Hodgdon's "Clays" powder burns exceptionally clean.

Good luck.

Default RE: primer question

I used to shoot a LOT of trap. Over the years I came up with what I thought (and still do) is a great load. It was: AA hulls.. 17.5 gr. 700X powder..Rem. RXP wads .. if the RXP wads are unavailable, check to see if AA wads are the same size. I think they are, but just can't remember now..Win. 209 primers.. 1 1/8 oz. # 7 1/2shot. As halcon stated, if the primers were stored properly, they should be fine. I've shot 30+ year old rifle primers and they worked just fine. If the primers that you have on hand are compatible with the 209 size, they will work.

Default RE: primer question

Thanks alot guys! We went and got everything except the powder this evening. We went ahead and got a 1000 pack of primers but we'll give the old ones a shot. My 8 year old even got his first rifle this evening! A little .22 Cricket single shot. On top of that I picked up a little dirt bike last Saturday (needed some work) and hid it from him until I got it running today, and ordered the parts to fix his pocket rocket! The gun was from his Grandpa though. Once again, thanks alot everyone. Always good advise from this site!!!!!
