Just started reloading and I have found that when I full length resize the case the bullet seats nice and tight but when I use the collet die to just resize the necks on other brass the bullet is loose enough on some rounds for me to actually be able to pinch the bullet hard enough with my fingers to actually pull the bullet out. My question is, is this going to be a problem if I only shoot these few rounds single shot from my bolt action? I will cinch the collet die down more on the next rounds I do. Thanks for any information you can give me.
Not right. Sounds like that collet die is not the right dimensions. You have to have more neck tension than that for accurate ammo. How many bullets have you tried? Send that back to Lee.
Bigcountry, I' ve got maybe five out of twenty that were that loose, but the rest seemed awfully easy to resize too. Haven' t fired any yet to see if accuracy is affected negatively. I just wondered if the loose ones will be safe to fire single shot.
I sent your question to RCBS. I wouldn' t shoot those rounds until the experts send back their answer.

Yes, that' s a problem!! If the bullet can be moved with your fingers, it is too loose!! It can fall into the case, or fall out, and, even worse, it can let stuff into the case, like water!!

Thanks for your replies and I think I' ll send an E-mail to Lee also and ask them the same. I' ll be interested in hearing what RCBS has to say or suggest what to do about the situation. I checked the first few that I resized with the collet die and they were fine so I went ahead and did the rest and somewhere down the line some did not get as good a sizing. Lee says you can turn down the die a quarter of a turn more for a tighter fit so I' ll be sure and do that next time. If that doesn' t do it I' ll have to send it back for them to check out. The instructions said the collet die will grip the bullet with a light press fit with cases of average hardness. For a tighter fit, you can anneal the case neck or polish the decapper mandrel .001 smaller. Anyone ever done any of these things to make their die grip alittle tighter?
I tried the sanding of the decapper and over did it !!!!!!!!!
IMHO,the problem is the cases. The metal is different ,in hardness. Where they are from the same lot of caese ???? Bet not ?
As to anealing caese ,it is tricky to do .
Yes they were from the same box. I went to the Lee Web site and I believe my problem was not pushing hard enough on the last part of the lever travel, which is probably why some were tight and those few rounds were not. Newbie mistake but thanks so much for all the comments which is what I love about this site. I only hope I can sometime be as helpful myself.
