Default Need brass for 6.5X55 Swedish mauser or suggestions

I picked up a 6.5X55 Swedish Mauser today, all sporterized and set up very nicely for hunting. I got 19 shells with it and a set of dies and some 120gr. Nosler BT bullets for $220. I am wondering if anybody here has some brass that has been loaded less than 2X or some suggestions on what I can form the brass from. The 308 win is very close, but too short, the 30.06 is closer but very long and would need considerable trimming, plus the swede has a considerable taper to it. What about 300 savage brass? I dont have any here to compare it to though. Any other suggestions? I love this gun already with only 3 shots fired though it. With several bad discs in my neck and back I think that this is a very good gun as far as recoil vs. cartridge ability for myself.

The head diameter of the 6.5X55mm is greater than that of the Mauser -57mm or '06 size cases.(.479-.480" vs .468")I believe that 6.5X55mm brass made in USA is about the same as '06 cases, but the Norma-made cases are the correct size.

I would not want to use U.S. brass and count on it expanding up enough to work safely, but it must workOK...... As you noted, the .308 case is too short (51mm vs 55mm) and the '06 needs a lot of brass cut off the neck! You could use a 57mm Mauser case, but then they are about as expensive as good 6.5X55mm cases to begin with....

I suggest just buying some Norma or Lapua cases. They will last a long time.

Thanks for the reply eldeguello. After some research and looking around on the websites I have pretty much come to the same conclusion that you suggested. For about $30 I will have $50 good cases, which is more than enough to get the gun sighted in and for working up a good load. I may be working on load #2 by the time that I get all of that done, but good brass should have plenty of loads in them. The more that I read up on this caliber the more that I am excited about it. Accuracy, check, enough power to take most north american game humanely, check, a nice gun at a more than reasonable price, check again.[8D]

Thanks for the replies. I was in a pawn shop today and picked up 60 rounds of loaded Wolf ammo today for the reloadable brass. I know that it may not be top notch stuff, but some is better than none. The stuff actually looks as if it is loaded with Winchester power point bullets.
