Default loading for 30-06

Fairly new to reloading, started this spring and have probaly shot over 200 rounds thru 2 different 06's. Started with IMR4350 nothing impressive. Been having a lot better results with 48.7 grains of IMR4064.
Anyone have a pet load with any different powders???

I shoot 165 Nosler Ballistic tips with 58 grains of H4831 with Federal 215 primers in Remington Brass.
Sub MOA.

I have used IMR4064 with 150 Speers and Federal 210's with good luck as well.

Usually IMR4350 works very well with 165's.

I have 2 main loads for my 30-06
150gr Horandy IB with 60gr of H414
165gr Sierra Gameking with 57gr of H414

I have have some 150 gr barnes with 61grs of H414 loaded in the past

all bullets are moly coated

I really like the IB load its accurate and works great on deer, closest deer was 20yrds and furthest was 280 with this load....neither went any more than 50 ft

There are more different loads for the .30/'06 than the number of dollars Bush is asking for in the big bank bailout! The problem with "pet loads" is that a pet load is merely a pet load for the gun in which it was developed!

However, there are some powders that usually do well in certain rounds. And for the old '06, IMR 4064 is certainly one of these. A very good accuracy load for the M1 Garand has always been 47 grains of IMR 4064 and the Sierra 168-grain Match King bullet.

These powders are alsogood: RL 15,RL 19, IMR 4895,H414, WW 760, and IMR 4350 too, if you get the right amount. In addition, the new Alliant RL 17 looks promising in rounds having bore capacities in the same range as the '06.......

Good luck!

DM
I just moved back to my old house in upstate NY from having lived is PA since 2000. Imagine my surprise when I discovered half a pound of H205 here. I used to use55.7 grains of thispowder with a 200-grain Nosler partition in my J. P. Sauer 8X60RS double rifle for a MV of 2620 FPS. This load shoots into 2.6" at 100 meters fromboth barrels.

While in PA, I worked up an accurate, regulating load with the same bullet, using 59 grains of RL22. But the MV was only 2450. I hope this H205 powder is still good! It looks OK, but powders do lose strength from absorbing moisture over the years. And this is a real HUMID place!

I'll try it, however!

Here's a target with the 59 grain, RL 22 load fired at 100 meters, using both barrels.
