Default More 444 Marlin Advice Needed

Tried my first batch today. Got a problem. This is the first straight case cartridge I have ever tried. I am using an RCBS die set.

It appears that as I seat the bullet, a few are not going in perfectly vertical. Hardly noticeable. Only the ever so slightest distortion in the case at the base of the bullet gives it away. They chamber fine. I felt not even a hint of resistance. I took a risk a fired a few. They group fine too.

What am I missing???

Bulging by itself is not a serious problem. As long as the bulging is consistent. Did you trim the brass to length??

Cast or jacketed bullets?? Tom.

Mojotex, seating is the one thing that will reveal mistakes, the case is not supported, seating and crimping can put more effort on the case than it can support.

Make sure that you trim then champher inside and outside before reloading the case, could your die be putting too much crimp on and causing the case to bulge? I would bet thats what is happening, back out the die a little.

What kind of bullets are you using?

Mojo - I believe what you are seeing is just the outline of the bullet - correct?
If it concerns you, you can start the bullet into the case, the, before it hits the crimping point, lower the ram and rotate the case 180 degrees.
What I think you are seeing is the result of the case mouths being sized a bit under the diameter of the bullet. Then you flare the case mouth and when you seat the bullet, you can see the profile.
Now if you are crushing the case, then that is a different problem.

also check the bullet make, some are .429 and some are.430, I found the .429 are less prone to "showing themselves" in the brass.
