Default The next dumb bullet ?????

Ok after more research the question I wanted to ask is :

How come the heavy 30 cal bullet moulds aren't sleek and pointy like the 180 grain match hpbullets ?

Why are all the pistol bullets flat or round and not shaped like XTP's ?

After having looked at 100s of moulds for pistols , muzzle loaders , shotgunsand rifles I'm yet to see a true spitzer/spire pointshape . It seems to me that a simple flat based "X" styled spitzer/spire pointhpwould be an excellent bullet at theheavyend of thecal option (ie 200-220 .308/30-06') . These could be launched as fast or almost as their jacketed brethern .

What about conical hppistol bullet shaped like the evolution ?

Have you ever seen one besides the $220 Hoch .

I will try to answer your question. Hopefully with out getting beat up too much. But IMO, the reason for pistol bullets (and revolver bullets) being short and fat instead of long and sleek is because you would 1. need a longer magazine/action. 2. would not have the frontal mass which helps in delivering more 'felt' energy at impact.
Revolver were often also chambered in tube fed rifles that required a flat pointed bullet to prevent discharging the rounds in the tube upon recoil.
As for muzzleloaders, their velocity is relatively low, like a revolver and you need that frontal surface to distribute the energy.
If you were to look at the large caliber solids and soft points used for dangerous game, almost every one of the is a round nose bullet.
If I'm incorrect in my asssumtions, I am sure the guys in here will let me know.

Ok . I get the revolver/pistol gig , blunt trama . Like nobody just for kicks shoots their 357 at steel plates on out to 100 yards (ref.Seirra manual 200gr sil bullet). Why not something like the 125 gr gc 308-311 for the 7.62x39 scaled up to 355-358 145-165 gr or 451-458 245-265gr even 300 . With an HP of .2 the tube mag issue is almost nil and you or I still get a comparitively flat shooting bullet .

To the rifles if one were to convert the 180 308TSX to a 1-10 cast bullet it would weigh in at 196 +- maybe over 200 gr
My books mostly show a 200 gr 30-06' at under 2400 fps, max for any cast with good lube gas checks and a full load is around 2250 .So what the HP nose shatters you've still got 150-175 gr of blunt force tearing up organs and breaking ribs and lodgingunder the off side hide . Like I'd hunt water buffalo with a cast HP in my 06' .

The point being if WE could shoot a 5 centcast bullet to the same point of holdas OUR$1 TSX I'd shoot the hell out of themandmy dead on 100 yd200gr castwould be dead on as a 180 grTSX at 200 yd.

It sounds to me like you are looking to save money by casting bullets to shoot out of your '06. By all means, go ahead and do it. IMO only a fool with money to burn would shoot the TSX bullets just to punch holes in paper. And unless you were going to use your '06 for elk or girzzly, I wouldn't even bother with using the TSX bullets. A relatively inexpensive bullet like the Hornady Interlock in 180 gr will work fine for all deer and black bear and even elk. And from my experience are very accurate. My load consist of this bullet with 49 gr of IMR4064.

I like the 150 SPBTinterloc w/51gr of 4350 fine . Sighted TSX as a style not my favorite thought they would be the ticket in my 06' as it is unique with a bbl suited for 250's you can't even buy prodution moulds that heavy any more much less find loaded ammo . I am casting for it and a 308 ,32 rem ,8x57,357and 45 Colts. Now to find that one lube that works for me................................

I'm sure there would be a demand if there was a supply for a low drag mould just wondered if it was out there for less than 2 cases of 06'.
