Hi folks,
I've checked out a few presses and talked to some skilled reloaders, but I really need to start building my brass supply. I'm interested in .223, 7.62x39, and 5.45x39.
I want to build my supply by buying some new manufacture brass rounds. I'm not as interested in just buying hollow brass cases. If I'm correct the best way to go is with boxer-primed cases(?). If you've ordered from the Armory or have experience with PCC ammo in a .223, please let me know what you think of http://www.the-armory.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/product5.html.
as far as 7.62x39 and 5.45x39, I'm having a a really tough time finding the in new manufacture brass. Its either reloaded brass or new manufacture steel. I think I remember once seeing them online somewhere but it was like $0.50 per round. Any suggestions?
Thanks to the insight you can provide and God bless
I do not have any experience with PMC, but don't recall hearing a lot bad or good. The Boxer Primer term is weird IMO that they used it. I think that is what most all center fire cartridges use. Kinda like saying they are also reloaded with smokeless powder, would sound weird since that is what all use. Could be wrong but pretty sure "boxer" style is the norm.

Boxer vs berdan . Look inside the case 1 flash hole is boxer 2 berdan . Lots of techical stuff involved and I have seen tools for berdan huge pain to work with Most of the foriegn 7.62 39 is berdan ........... You ought to be able to buy Federal or Winchester in reloadable brass .
The virtue of reloading is that the cases only cost 50 cents 1 in 5-10 loads the other 4-9(or more) are "free".

That's how I sourced brass for my first AR, and I've still got most of it to reload for my second AR. It was dirt cheap then and a man could afford a few 20 round boxes every week to build a supply.
The only problem I had was finding it all againafter I shot it...
It's decent brass forwhat I'm using it for........

Looks like a good deal for a plinking gun. If you are going to be shooting the rifle in high volumes and you plan to do precision shooting, don't waste the barrel life on cheap ammunition. Just go out and buy new Winchester brass and start reloading with the bullet you intend to use. If the rifle is going to be used for any shooting over 200 yards, expect that every shot is going to cost you 10cents worth of barrel life, as the barrel is going to crap out somewhere between 3000-5000 rounds for purposes of distance shooting depending on who made it andwhat its made from.

Oh yeah, and I discussed the Russian rounds with my local, favorite gun shop. They said that 7.62x39s and even 5.45x39s aren't worth reloading. As in, not cost effective. 5.56, yes, but no to the Russkies. They recommended steel cased rounds and just tossin' them when done. Any opinions?
Thank you all so much for the responses. I should return the favor with a funny video. I kinda feel like getting a camcorder and videotaping the look on my wife's face when she sees me carrying in a few cases of ammo for guns I don't even own.....
Not sure what you are shooting the Russian rounds out of, but if you want accuracy, you will need to reload or find quality ammo for those calibers. If you just want to throw lead. . .
For the Russian rounds you can buy steel cased ammo for cheaper than the brass alone. I don't even bother looking for 7.62x39 brass, I look for whoever has tuna fish cans on sale.
