Default What' s your fav. plastic tip?

I' ve been shooting Rem. bt,s and I am very impressed with there accuracy in my .308 and I have used Hornady' s in .223 with equal results. What I would like to know is what experiance have you all had hunting with these in the larger calibers and other plastic tipped bullets and what is your current favorite for the field? Thanks for your help, and good shootin to ya!

I have taken over 30 head of big game with the following ballistic tips:
.257" -100gr in 257wby-deer,pronghorn
.284" -140gr in 7mmrem mag and 7mmstw-deer,bighorn,pronghorn
.308" -180gr in 300ultramag-moose,elk,deer
I have never used any other synthetic tipped bullet because the scirocco' s would not group in my rifles.I may try the interbond next fall if nosler doesn' t make the bonded ballistic tip in lighter weights.

I have used the Nosler ballistic tip in a variety of calibers and always been satisfied with accuracy and performance on game. This past season I chucked the Hornady 154GR SST out of my 7 rem Mag and equally satisfied. They actually out performed in accuracy over my beloved NBT' s.

I always used Nosler untill last season. Hornady SST' s seem to work just as well and cost less...

I have to agree about the SST' s, every bit the equal of the BT, but at half the price, for twice as much. My 30-06, 257 Roberts and 6.5x55 like them to the point of being inside of 2" , if I do my part and have a good day some inside of an inch.

Canadian prices for sst' s and ballistic tips:
180gr-.308 sst' s-31.99 per 100 bal tips-19.99 per 50 or 39.98 per 100
140gr-.284 sst' s-28.99 per 100 bal tips-18.99 per 50 or 37.98 per 100
the sst' s are actually 139gr
As you can see the sst' s are cheaper but certainly nowhere near 1/2 the price of the ballistic tips.

I shoot a good bit of Nosler Ballistic Tips. Today I bought my first box of Hornady SSTs. They are cheaper than Ballistic Tips but not 1/2 the price. Midsouth sells 150g Nosler BTs for $10.85 a box or 50. The SST' s are $16.11 for a 100. I figured I' d give them a try and see what I think of them.

Cheaper yes, but really minimal when you consider the overall cost of hunting \ shooting.

Ive shot a bunch of deer with the 200 gr nosler in my 338. Its the most accurate bullet Ive found for that particular rifle, and usually most any rifle Ive tried nosler bt' s in will shoot them very well. I actually prefer a bullet that is a little tougher though for game, and only use these because they have enough weight to punch through a whitetail even though they usually turn inside out even on a small deer. I guess the deer dont care though. I have seen some dismal performance on deer with the lighter calibers though and personally wont use them in my 7mm rifles because of what Ive seen.

Thanks for the advice. I have got to go out and get some SST' s for my .308. They sound like a good choice for me. The BT' s do an outstanding job in the factory loads by Remington but I love to experiment. Now Hornady has a new bonded-core tipped bullet that sounds even better than the old style. It' s getting to be more like the electronics industry, something new every year just to get you to let go of more pocket money, but hey, don' t ya love it!
