Default Question about the 300WSM RELOADING

Here is something strange..Last year I got a 300 WSM rifle...No 2 years ago..

Picked up 3 boxs of win.180 grain ammo for it...After shooting it the brass
would not fit back in the chamber..You could not even resize it and make
it fit..Tried a couple of rounds from each box. They all did the same thing..

So I got a box of the win.supreme, nickle coated brass..Now that all worked
fine..After fireing it would fit back in the chamber without any problems.

I sent the other ammo back to the factory telling them about it..Never heard
anything from them..About a month went by and they sent me 3 new boxs.
Now this stuff worked fine..They never said if there was a problem with
the brass or what was wrong...

By the way the rifle was a weatherby vangard..New.....What do you guys
think was wrong with that patch of brass..I tried to resize in two different
brands of dies..I have wondered if the brass was too thick or something
like that..Guess I will never know...

I find it hard to believe that you could not resize the "once" fired brass with a "Properly" set up Full Length Die. In many WSM rifles it is critical to make sure that the shoulder is bumped back far enough for the round to chamber. The WSMsare running at much higher pressures than most other factorychamberings and it is not uncommon for the brass to expand above what we are used to.
My guess is that your FL die needed to be properly adjusted to resize the once fired brass back to SAAMI specs.

Steve--I tried a set of lee dies as well as rcbs---It would not size it back to fit in the chamber..I still think something was wrong with the brass and winchester, wasn't gonna talk..If the dies worked for the nickel brass, why wouldn't it work for the other????

Steve---I beleive I had them set as usuall..Down to touch the shell
holder and a bit more so the press was caming over..I'm telling ya..
The damn things would not size back down..But like I said the
silver cases sized easy..The only thing I could think off,was the
brass might have been too thick..They sent me 3 new box'z and
that stuff worked and resized as normal...Guess I never will know
unless someone else has had this problem..

Skin--I had no case gauge...

Steve
I sent all the brass back to Win..That is why I still think something was wrong with the brass.
They sent me 3 new boxs---No letter or note with the replacement....

The stuff they had sent to me seems to size as normal...One guy said the chamber in the
rifle was too sloppy causing the brass to expand more than it should have...I don't think
it was or it seems like the new stuff would have done the same thing....

One thing I have noticed with my 7wsm, the brass seems to lengthen more than any other cartridge that I load for. I use the lee trimmer, seems like I am cutting a lot off every time I reload. I guess I should actually measure them, but I just got in the habit of trimming every time. I think I trimmed even more on the once fired factory cases.

If you keep having problems, I think that would be something to look into getting...but maybe you just had some weird brass, too...strange things can happen...
