Default Neck sizing only?

I have a break open H&R in .204 Ruger and have been full length resizing since starting to reload. Been doing that since that was what my kit came with. But read alot about just neck sizing after the cases have been formed to the gun. Is just neck sizing really a better way to go and should be something that I am doing? Does it really increase case life and accuracy? Any help on this would be appreciated. I am getting ready to buy 100 new brass and want this batch to be done right from the start.

Default RE: Neck sizing only?

When you resize brass for a break open rifle it is a totally different game. It is not like sizing for a bolt action. Go to the web site that Mike Bellm has for single shot rifles. He goes into detail exactly how to size your single shot brass.

In your single shot you have your cartridge headspace-then you also have to add the length of the gap between the end of the barrel and the breechface. How large that gap is will determine if you can NS or not. If the gap is too big then the shoulder will need bumped-If you do not bump the shouder the rifle wil not close properly. Tom.

This is true of any rifle, i.e. if the case doesn't fit from whatever cause...you may not be able to chamber the round.

Neck sizing is for increased accuracy and case longevity. I don't know a thing about neck sizing for a single shot though.
