Default What to do with all of this .45 auto ammo?

My father in law just gave me a whole bunch of brass and loaded ammo. I ended up with nearly 800 rounds of .45 auto ammunition, and a couple thousand rounds of empty 9mm brass. Plus some of what I was hoping for and that was .38 special brass and nearly 100 308 rounds. I do not own an 45 Auto, so I dont know if they are that good of a round, and I dont know what this stuff is worth. What should I do with it? I know that it would be a good excuse to buy a 45 Auto, but not if it is just a marginal handgun.

45 ACP is probably the finest self defense round thier is IMO. Military is looking at going back to it again from the 9mm. Is it handloaded 45ACP ammo or factory stuff? Remington UMC's 50 round box probably goes for over 12 dollars.

Me id prob look for a excuse to buy a new gun.I dont own a 45.acpmyself either.Marginal round you mean?No nothing wrong with it at all that i know of . If you like your 9mm & 38,s & your 45. colt -you should like it to id think also. 45 acp hasgot a large frontal area/bullet dia. etc & heavy bullets going for it to.Me personally id prob take it over a 38 speical givin a choice i think - but i like 38,s to& they fit in my 357,s.& we have a lot of revolvers &the mate shelikes her38 snubys(2nd one for her).

You answered your own question. You know you need a new .45 now .It's a sign .If you didn't need a new .45 you wouldn't have gotton all if that ammo.

I understand the excuse so well. I sold a 40S&W Glock a few years ago along with an extra 357sig barrel. I now still have over 2000 pieces of once fired brass in 40 and 1000 in 357sig. That and I have the dies are excuse enough to get another.

There are about 500 rounds of unfired, new stuff, and nearly 300 reloaded, half jacketed and half lead.

I do not own an 45 Auto, so I dont know if they are that good of a round, and I dont know what this stuff is worth.

I am not sure I'd fire that ammoif it is a handload somebody else put together, unless I was well acquainted with that guy's abilities in the handloading field! Now, as to the .45 ACP. Just how good it is dep[ends on what you want to do with it! I don't regard it as quite as good a target round as the .38 Special, yet it is quite good as a target round. Marginal? As Big Country said, the .45 ACPis the ne plus ultra of combat handgun rounds - there just ain't nothin' better! Now, I would not buy a .45 ACP just to have something to shoot up 800 rounds of ammo in - I'd buy one because if I didn't have one, I'm smart enough to know I SHOULD haveone!
