Default 270 win mag?

has anyone here done or know someone that has done this? by necking down the 300 win mag or 338 win mag? what are the differences in the 300/338 win mag? other than just the neck size?

if its available its been done, I know a smith who specializes in extreme range hunting rifles, 2 of his chamberings are 277 dia, one is a 7mm rum necked down and improved the other is a 338 lapua mag necked down and inproved
and yes, the bullet diameter is the only difference in the 264 wm, 7mm rm, 300 wm, and 338 wm.

Just buy a 270 Weatherby Mag.
Or buy a 270WSM anything much beyond that is pretty much over bore.

Why bother when the 7mmremmag will do anything that the same case with a .277" bullet will do.

You'd only be duplicating a cartridge that already exists AKA .270 Weatherby...............Harold No better no worse!

if the 300 wm and the 338 wm case are the same with the exception of neck size, then why is there a 30-338win wildcat?

nc because of slight differences
from Hodgdon #17
The 300 winchester magnum is based on the 338 winchester magnum case with the shoulder moved.156" foreward, and the case lengthened by .120".
