Default Bullet Removal

Hey guys,
I have a couple questions. I've got an almost full box of Hornady Light Mags for my 30-06. I like them, but the couple I've shot ended up leaving the case with some head expansion. I bought them for my TX hunting trip which I was successful on. Now I don't really have a need for them, esp if all the cases are going to be ruined for reloading after I shoot them. If I don't have a bullet puller of any sort what is the easiest way to remove the bullet? Can I deprime a live primer since I'm not sure what kind of primer it is? What is the safest way to dispose of unwanted powder since I am unsure as to the powder as well?

Thanks,
Ryan

Give them to someone who owns a different brand of rifle.

JMHO, But I would get a Kinetic bullet puller .Looks like a hammer stick the round in it and smack it on a hard surface .Out pops the bullet and powder. Then stick the case in your gun and pop the primer.

kinetic pullers dont work very well on commercial ammo, you'll be poundin away for atleat 10 minutes a round. Id get a mechanical puller I think hornady and rcbs both make one only down side these can deform the bullets.

Yes you can deprime live primers and the best way to rid unwanted powder is to burn it. all powder manufacturers recommend this as common practice to get rid of unwanted powder.

Questions: How much head expansion did you get? Too much for the empty, fired cases to go back into the chamber and let you close the bolt? If you can rechamber them, why can't the cases be reloaded?? Did you fire them in a bolt-action rifle? Where is the expansion, at the web or across the case rim/solid head itself? Can you post a picture showing the expansion?

Safest way to burn-pour it out into a long trail of about 1/4" in width on dry ground OUTSIDE and light one end. Unconfined smokeless powder burns pretty unspectacularly! Another safe disposal method is to spread it around on the lawn, like fertilizer. The weather will degrade it.

I usually dig a hole in the ground and burn about 1/4 pound at a time.

ive got a few pounds of 40 year old RL7 thats gone bad. the stuff burns like a volcanic eruption and I have to watch it as dry as it is around here. I still have 3 lbs left that needs burned.

You should never burn powder unless you have a way to light it from a distance..
Throw it out in the lawn and forget it..I have seen 2 guys get burnt BAD
trying to burn it..Darn you guys should know better than tell someone to
burn old powder....Shame on you....

Burning small amounts in a line is perfectly acceptable.

How much were these guys disposing of and how? Sounds like an interesting lesson of how not to do it.

Isn't that what you do? Or is it another poster who disposes ammo for the army?

Maybe I am getting you mixed up with another poster.
