Default Are any of you using Trail Boss for you pistol ammo yet?

I just bought some to try out after reading good things about it in some of the magazines. It fills the case of my 44 Magnum rounds a lot better than anything else so far has, but I have yet to fire any of it. It does list as being about 100fps slower than Universal, and up to 200-300 fps slower than H110, but for a plinking round that should be fine. 900-950fps should be good enough for anything out to 50 yards anyhow if I decide to shoot something with it.

The powder was developed for SASS. It is designed for low pressure low velocity loads, and to do away with position sensitivity of powder in the case. Like you, I have heard alot of good things about the powder. I can use 2400 and do away with position sensitity with less powder(more rounds per pound). 2400 gives decent case fill with light loads, try it.

I do not believe it was meant to be used(initially) in the 44 magnum. I think it was initially developed for the 45 Colt. Tom.

This is my first 1# of it, I thought that I would give it a shot. They say that it was developed for Cowboy action loads, so it would only make sense that the 45lc would be what they used to develop it.

talk about powder position sensitivity with hodgdon clays...... in my 38 special loads I used to use hodgdon clays till I chronographed them. with the powder back against the flash hole my loads were hitting 850 to 900 fps but with the powder forward against the base of the bullet I was getting 450 to 520 fps. I shoot alot of lead cast in 38 special so I thought I might try trail boss too.

Getting ready to finish off my first 9 oz. can. It's great stuff in SA revolvers. I load .357 with 4.2 gr (about max load according to IMR's info), WSP primer, and 158 gr Oregon Trail LRNFP and love it. I don't have a chrono to give real details but with a 6 1/2" Ruger Blackhawk I get groups as good as I can shoot at 25 yards - about 4 inches. Also shot about 100 rounds in my ruger gp100 6" and can hit a can about every time at 25 yards. Low recoil and just plain fun to shoot.
