RE: Encore 6.5x284 anybody shooting one
OL, COL is determined by your chamber's throat length, here's how I find my max oal
Get your cleaning rod and use a flathead 6-32 screw or a screw with the head cut off to plug the threaded end of your rod, and 2 o-rings, sized to just make a snug fit on the rod, ( I use 2-1/4" lock collars)slide 1 O-ring all the way to the handle of the rodnow with your rifle empty and closed slide the rod down your barreltill its against the frame (make sure the firing pin isn't extended, don't think it would be, but I'm not 100% positive how an encore works) now slidethe o-ring down agaist your muzzle, then removeput other o-ring on just below the first oneand open the action, slide a bullet that your going to work the load up with into the barrel, hold it againt the rifleing with a pencil eraser and reinsert the rod till it touches the bullet, slide second o-ring down against the muzzle, measure the distance of the lower side to lower side of the 2 rings, this is your max OAL for that chamber and that bullet.
this process takes 5 minutes to do and is super accurate.
Oh and BTW, most of the guys I know with the 6.5/284's have the best results with 140 gr bullets right at 2950 fps (look at H4831SC) however some vld's shoot best tucked into the lands but watch the pressures.
