Default LONG 44 mag cases?

Is there another cartridge that I can buy cases for and then trim/cut them down to length and use in a 44mag for birdshot loads? Is the 444 marlin case an option?

why not just use 44 mag cases?? its pointless to even consider cuttin 444 cases since they are so expensive about double in cost as opposed to 44 mag cases.

To get a higher shotcount. A little extra length can get you nearly double the shotcount I believe. I know they would be expensive...but still cheaper than factory birdshot loads from CCI and since the pressures wouldn't be very high I imagine I could load them again and again and again. Besides, I might shoot off 30 of them a year.

Beyond that...I was just curious.

So...anyone got the answer?

Look for some 445 Super Mag cases. Dan Wesson chambers revolvers for that cartridge. I believe they are about the same length as a 454 Cassul.

look at speer's 44 cal shot capsules they hold nearly a half ounce of #8's and a box of 50 capsules is about 5 dollars. these capsules will maximize your shot payload the best. the capsule will stick out passed the case mouth a bit and the cartidge will be within max COL so it will use up about 95% of the chamber length. besides theres plenty of load data for these and makes it pointless to even foober with anything that might cause ya problems.

445 super mag should work. They are about the same length empty as a 44 mag is loaded. Many guys ream the 44 Mag handi rifles to 445 SM. Tes the 444 Marlin should work as well.

The 444 Marlin will not work, as it is .471" ahead of the rim, while the .44 Mag is .457". Use the .445 Super Mag. case.
