Default heaviest bullet for a 7mm-08

Thinking about buying a 7mm-08 and naturally I'll be reloading... Just wondering what the heaviest bullet I could reload and still have good groups

Accurately? Probably 150. Maybe 162. I wouldn't put money on 175 grouping well in most 7mm-08s.

I haven't had a go with any of the 175gr bullets. But the 162 InnerLoks I loaded shot very nicely. Since you are a handloader longbeard the 7-08 is THE finest choice for a medium sized game rifle...and heck, its not bad for certain big game either! It can do plenty with handloads that trumps factory loads in almost all other common calibers. Its a real peach!

Mine will handle the 175 grains well but I have really never needed anything heavier than 140 grain. For deer I like the 120 Barnes TSX.

The best group I"™ve had so far is with Sierra 160 gr. game king although I haven"™t tried the 175 gr. bullets. The 175 would not be my first choice in the 7mm-08...

I have had the best luck with 140gr bullets in my own 7mm-08 rifles. They worked great even on moose.

I've tried loading with 150 gr. but the 7-08 that I have (just new this year...bought for my son) seems to like the loads that I've loaded with 140 gr. bullets. I think I'm also going to try with 130 gr. before hunting season to see their performance. Has any one else tried the 130's? How'd they do?

I have used the Nosler Partition 140 grainer quite a lot in the 7X57mm and 7mm Rem. Mag. both, and it has performed very well on all N.A. game I have shot with it. I have seen a couple of reasonably large grizzlies taken with this bullet as well. It's a good one in any 7mm rifle.
