Default Dimpled Cases?

Need some help guys. Just started back into handloading after 25 years. I am getting a bunch of cases that get dimples in the neck right at the base where it necks down for the slug. This is happening when I run it through the resizing die. If I back the die off so that it does not happen, the die is not resizing the case fully and I have a hard time closing the action on my Browning BLR. I am very light on the case lube. I bought these 308 dies used and they may need to be pitched. But I thought I would ask before spending the $ to replace them to see if anybody had any ideas.

Never had dimples in the neck, I have had them in the case body and shoulder area. that was due to hydrolic dimples and I found my little hole on the resizing die was clogged up and I was using too much lube. Have you taken apart you die to make sure everything looks smooth and all?

When I used to lube with a pad and the messy lube stuff, I would roll it over the pad and then take a paper towel and wipe off excess. Not wipe off too much however.

I'm with bigcountry on this - I've had dimples on the shoulder from using too much lubricant (the old RCBS type). Try taking apart your sizing die and cleaning it outwith a degreaser like 'gun scrubber'. I would also suggest you buy a can of Hornady's One Shot. Its is much easier to use, works well, andshouldn't give you any dimples. If you do use this product, spray the inside of your CLEAN die and spray the brass on a 45 degree angle to get the lube into the case mouth. Good luck.

i second the use of One Shot: It is so much earier to use. Threw away my lube pad and grease over ten years ago.

I use spray lube and at times STP oil treatment on a rag, a lil on a rag will lube cases for a millenium. I use a 3"x6" rag and I've resized 150 6.5 cases and have not reappied the stp on it, lasts forever, ok I'm cheap!.

Thanks guys. Ran 50 cases through the die last night. Every one turned out perfect. That vent hole was the culprit.

I get that with my 243 cases. But mine seem to come from firing them out of the single shot Rossi 243. I am about to give up on reloading for 243's, I havent been able to get the hang of reloading those super necked down cases yet.
