I'm a member of the outdoor range here and since it's outdoor several people seem unconcerned with picking up their casings. I want to recover mine but when my Mini-14 for example throws them 10 or 12 feet into the grass among other casings it gets pretty tedious finding the warm one. There has to be a better way.
I also have a 9mm auto loader I'd like to recover casings from but the pistol range is all but carpeted with casings in the grass so that's the same story.
Is there a way to set up a bag or something of the sort to catch them? I've seen bags that mount onto the sides of ARs but I don't really see that working with my Mini-14 due to how far the bolt will move and I'm pretty sure that a bag wouldn't work on the pistol, either.

There's so much out there now that it'd be near impossible to do that, especially since there's no concrete or anything. It's all grass on the rifle and pistol ranges, even under the covered areas.

You either Police your brass and garbage at our range-or you do not come back!!! Do you have a Range Officer??? If not, then why wouldn't you say something to the litter bugs??? We would not put up with that type of crap here. Tom.

We need to stop using these terms today, "Sniper Rifle", "Tactical", "Assault Weapon".
Nope, our range isvery loosely run. For example you can DRIVE over to the rifle range and never come close enough to the office to be seen or heard. Sometimes I wonder why I bothered paying the membership fee...oh wait, because I'm honest unlike a lot of those guys (same ones that leave brass lying around).
The range is actually operated during the day by the guy's wife and from my personal dealing with her I don't think she cares about anything other than selling you whatever you asked for and getting back to her tv shows. And, the two times I've shared the range with somebody (99% of the time I'm there it's during the day on a weekday and I guess everybody is at work)one of the guys had a bolt action and just caught his casings and the other had an AK-47 but was having his daughter more or less chase each shot. Seemed like solid guys.

A guy at my range had a pvc pipe set up in a rectangle shape up to about his head hight and some feet that went out to keep it steady then he put and old shirt over the top to stop the brass from flying too far away. He glued some of the pieces and left some unglued so it came apart easily.

I have seen brass catchers for 22's and semi auto pistols before. The ones that I saw where just a cage that you set over your gun that deflected the brass down into a catcher. It looked as if it would work well, but I dont know about comfort and ease of handling.

Our range has a couple of catchers that one can position near their bench.
They're frames roughly 4' x 6' that are covered with window screen material,and mounted on a stand. There's a small shelf at the bottom of the screened-in area to catch the casings once they fly into the netting.
