Default Need advice for a 44 mag load

got a freind that is shooting a rifle that shoots 44mags
and I have a taurus 44 with a 8"brl and he tells me that I am not going to be happy with the take down power of the 44
I find this hard to beleive I beleive that he is probably shooting bottom dollar ammo
well any how I am curious as to what loads and bullets every one would recomend in this aplication
I told him to save me some brass and I would get dies and try to see what I could come up with for him
he said that the bullet must be jacketed but the lead can be visable at the tip dont know why but its his gun so ok
well any how please fill me in on what you would load
he wants me to load it a little hot but not going crazy that were going to mess the gun up

First thing to do concerning reloading ammo for someone other than yourself is DON'T!!!!!!!! By doing so,you open yourself up to all kinds of liabilities. Also,by federal law,you need class 7 ffl to reload for other people.

I shoot 23.5gr of H110 and 240gr XTP. I also suggest not loading for him. Show him how to do it. I have loaded for the last person. My good buddy knows the deal. I taught him how to do it. And he can come over and I will take him thru it step by step.

I would not recommend reloading for him. Have him come over to your place and teach him. That way it will make him feel proud of his work and will not have to do the work. I prefer H110 or Blue dot for the .44mag. You did not indicate what he was gonna be shooting/hunting. For deer the xtp is a good choice. For hog & bear I use 300 grain speer plated soft points and hardcasts at 1300 fps.

If your not using the handgun for hunting I'd reccomend 6 grains of bullzeye and a 240 grain cast bullet, this is a nice light load for target shooting and plinking. if its for hunting big countrys load is the same asI use. I agreem dont reload for somebody else, show them how instead.

240gr bullet and 23gr of H110. But I am shooting out of a rifle, so I have had good success so far loading down as low as 18gr of powder.

wow you learn somthing new every day
who would of known you cant reload for some one lol
I guess it makes sense some dumb @$$ taking a empty casing filling it full of poweder and pressing a projectile and handing it off could have deadly results
well I will take your advice and I will either have him come over and reload his own or I will take it to his house and mount it on his bench and show him how
well thanks for the replys

he is just target shooting it now he has used it for deer but he has not been happy with the take down power so I wanted to try and make a better bullet for him
it is a 44 rifle lever action I beleive

good advice given. don't load for anyone else and don't use handloads in your carry gun.

Just out of curiosity why would you not want to use a hand load in your carry gun do they have some stupid consequence for that ?.
as for loading for freinds I am going to refrain from that.
I didnt know that it was illegal and the more I think about it I understand why the law is in place.
guess thats the best part about the forums you learn a lot

Some lawyer could use it against you in a trial. Saying, "he makes his own killer bullets, he must be looking for trouble."
