Default Need help - gun care

Things have changed in my situation and thanks to the people who have given advice.

I was given the opportunity to buy my brother's rifle. (I know - We will see how this pans out)

It is a Ruger MK II M77 walnut stock with blued barrell. It is a .270 (I mentioned this in the other threads) with a Leupold Vari X II C and a basic plastic case.

I thought it was a decent deal ($400) as it has no scratches and has only been shot a few times. I noticed after looking at (and it was obvious) that there is some surface spots on the top of the barrell that appear to be turning or about to turn to surface rust. You can feel them when you run your finger down the barrell.

What can I or should I do to take care of these spots?

Thanks again for all your help.

Bill

Take a bronze or brass bore brush and some oil and brush the spots then wipe the area with a cotton rag and some oil. Dont ever store a gun in a case though, the moisture is trapped inside with the gun and will rust quickly.
