Default 44 rem mag help

I am wondering what is the best bullet to shoot to just go out and shoot at the range and also what your favorite bullet for Whitetails is....I have seen some 180gr are those the lightest around?? Will those be good for target shooting? And then should I go with the heaviest weight I can for the whitetails?

For target shooting, I shoot 240gr Lasercast. They are cheap, and well made. In fact I wouldn't mind to shoot a deer with them. I don't like leading so I shoot a low power load like 10gr of Unique. Some guys go down to 8gr of Unique. But lower you go, the dirty it becomes. It is the most accurate load out of my 44 mag.

For hunting I shoot 240gr XTP with 23gr of H110. I was shooting 24.5gr, but I saw pressure signs on the primers. 23gr seemed to be the most accurate.

Find a good cast bullet in 240 grain weight. Look for a reputable local caster. Your local gun shop should be able to help you there. Buy 500 or 1000, and get out and shoot that bugger. Even better yet-basic casting equipment is inexpensive. Buy a pot, ladle, and a mold, then do it yourself. Go to "Cast Boolit" site for help. I am not against the 300 grain pill, but my 1894 Marlin will not operate with them. 300 grain is not necessary. Jacketed bullets for general shooting, and hunting just are not necessary. And they are considerably more expensive. Tom.
