Should I use a magnum primer for reloading 7mm? Or could I use cci Benchrest 200, The powder I will be using is rl22 or imr7828 with 140 grain and 160 grain bullets primarily. Or any other sugestions on what has worked well for you guys? I have been using cci br2 for my .280 with great results, so I am just wondering if I should change to a magnum primer?
Thanks
Elmer

Gee, never thought I'd be telling Elmer what primers to use! Well, I generally use Federal 210 (standard) primers in my 7mm Remington Magnum. I have tried the magnum size with that case, and did not find any advantage. I use a 175-grain Nosler in mine, and have discovered that for that heavy bullet, IMR 7828 gives higher velocities than RE 22 and the accuracy is about the same for both powders. However, RE22 might be better for lighter bullets......

We all love our 7mags, however, there is no load that I have ever seen that requires a mag primer....none, zero, nada. Having said that, if you are shooting above the artic circle in February....you might be better served with a mag primer. Other than that, there is no reason to consider this primer......in fact, there may be reasons to discount this primer......excessive chamber pressures, elongated primer holes and reduction in case life, pop up on my radar screen. The dead deer could care less if the bullet is going 3100 or 3110....don't fight city hall on this one.....save your brass and read what every manual says. Regards, Rick.
I like the slow powders in that case, and i always use mag. primers.. I do like the fed 215's because when it's cold out i know they will get things going in that case...
