The 7 mm Rem. Mag is an excellent cartridge for long distance and is a long action. The 7mm-08 is a cartridge with mild recoil and is a short action. The 7 mm WSM is a short action but isn"™t very popular. I prefer short action at this time , so I would go with the 7mm-08 but wouldn"™t mind having one of each...
I have a Tikka T3 in a 7mm-08 and I love it. This round is not as popular so therefore if you need some rounds in a hurry, like if somehow yours were ruined while out in the field, you would not be able to go to the local Wal-Mart and pick some up. But to fix that all that you need to do is store some extrarounds seprate from yourothers. It also all depends on what you plan on using it for. The 7mm-08 it is a great dear and pronghorn round.
Can I vote for you to build a 7mm STW. IMO if I would buy a custom or was graced with the knowledge of building a rifle I would want something not offered in every facoty rifle around.
Kinda like if I could rebuild engines, I wouldn't want to redo a 6 cyclinder. I'd do a 454 that shook the ground when it started up.
