RE: Best 22-250 bullet for varmints
Of late, I'm kinda with "cataway" on the H414 thing. I was using 4064, but after a few shots over the chrono and seeing dismal velocities, I decided to crack a keg of H414 I had stored for several years and put it to good use. Needless to say, the speeds were a little "off book" there as well, but with careful tuning, I got those 55gr VMax's to cluster into little tiny holes. Very, very consistent.....say 10 shots inside a dime hole at 100yds.I use Remington brass, a Fed. 210 Match primer and the55gr. VMax's. I won't give my powder charge as it's slightly over book, but it is a safe load in my gun. Speed wise it's slightly below the book's listing, and I don't need max loads, but it did needtailoring because at book powder weights, it wasn't hitting near the speeds over the chrono.I never was a big "Hornady Man" or nothing, mostly a diehard Sierra fan, but with the advent of the VMax line, and the XTP's.....well, I've been likin' "red" an awful lot lately.....Take care, Bob
