Default 10mm Handgun loads

I have seen factory handgun loads producing 558ft lbs energy at 50yds with a 180gr bullet. How much hotter could you hand load a 10mm using a Glock pistol? Could you get 600ft lbs energy out of it? How much energy would be maxfor safety?

According to the Speer Manual, you could get a little over 625 lb ME with a 180 grain bullet @ 1250-1300 fps. They list this load as a top load in the S&W Pistol.

You should check out the Glock Talk forum. They have a whole forum section dedicated to 10mm shooters. There's lots of experience and advice for reloading your 10mm Glock.

Personally, I carry a G20 with 200 grain FMJ's when I go fishing. With this load, it approaches published .41 Magnum numbers with a 210 grain bullet. I know I can shoot 15 rounds more quickly and accurately out of my Glock than I can shoot 5 rounds out of my .454 Casull. I doubt the bears care, though.

Attention: Some of the following info maybe in excess of what is printed in current reloading manuals and not safe in all firearms.

First thing you have to remember is the Glock does NOT have a fully supported chamber. You CAN shoot hot loads but your brass may get "smileys" on it.

Alot of Glock shooters opt for aftermarket barrels with fully supported chambers.

That being said McNett(Double Tap ammo) has some loads approaching 700 and beyond.

This data is for the Glock 20(factory barrel)

The 200gr JHP is running 1250 fps and producing 694 ft. lbs.

His 215 gr HardCast lead is running at 1225 and 714 ft.lbs.

I have been shootingthe followingload out of my Witness(all steel)with 4.5 inch factory barrel.

MAX LOAD: REDUCE by 2 grains and work up safely.

200 gr XTP
9.6 gr IMR-800-X (hand weighed every charge)
CCI-350(magnum primer)
Starline brass(new)
1.26 OAL
1/2 crimp/turn with LEE FCD

This load is right around 1230 fps and around 680 ft/lbs of energy.

I have a S&W 1006 coming soon and hope to try this load in it...with the 5 inch barrel I should be able to surpass 700 ft.lbs easily.

10mmtalk.com

glocktalk.com

Both have lots of info...just be careful as some(like me) like to push the envelope to the max....which leaves little or no margin of safety if you make a mistake in your reloading process.
