Default .308 fac loads flattening primers

I recently shot some Federal "Game Shok?" with 150 Gr bullets. I really didnt look at the brass after firing untill recently when i acually learned what "pressure signs" were. With that said, after inspecting the brass, the primers were flat as a pancake! Also, there were very visable indentations from the extractor. Oh, beforeI forget, the gun is a Rem model 760. Any ways, i showed the brass to one of my buddys who handloads all his ammo and he was suprised to learn that they were factory loads. I wonder just what they are doing there at the Federal factory.

it could very well be the ammo but I would suspect your gun for improper head spacing before jumping the gun and blaming the ammo.

typical federals. Federals will flatten alot easier than any other. You really can't go by federal primers when determining if your over pressure.

Use other indicators like extrator or plunger marks, case expansion.

I shot these exact loads the weekend prior and had no signs of any flat primers or extractor marks. I thinkI got a bad lot in this box or something. I recently saw a recall where the factory loads were being loaded too hot. I know it isnt the gun, pretty sure anyways.I guessI just had some bad luck with these factory loads.

On a 760 you will see extractor marks a lot anyway it is just the nature of the beast. A lot of factory ammo today can be on the hot side though.

A flattened primer does not bother me much, now if it were cratored and youhad a hard timeejecting the brass I would be a little more worried.

Yea, i dont see any more "bad" signs. The brass was easily ejected and no crack, bulging or any of the sort. i just thought it looked a bit off from the normal. It's prolly all good to go, but whatever.

I personally dont pay alot of attention to what the primers are doing asfar as signs to excessive pressure goes. IMO the best indicator for excessive pressure would be case bulging or hard extractions.

Sounds like your chamber was cut too deep. Excessive headspace.

I just think it was an isolated incident. This has never happened before and i have been shooting this rifle for 7+ years. Prolly nothing to worry about.
