Default who loads for 460?

Just bought a hosscat of a pistol. 10.5" barrel, performance center with bushnell elite scope. My brother and I were shooting a 1'X1' gas can at 200 yards with factory 200gr bullets. Problem is you can't buy those 200gr hornady bullets. So figured I would use 240gr XTP mags and 300gr XTP mags. It has a gained rifle twist barrel. Nothing but awesome.

I got alot of H110, so I am set there. But never heard of any target reduced recoil loads. I know you can shoot 45LC thru it. But I know some people that shoot only that thru thier 454's and ended up having to ream out powder residue to get 454's to shoot. Worried might happen with 454 loads, but who knows. Check it out.

looks to me from looking at some load data using 200 grain bullets makes it no better than a 444 marlin but then those hornady 200 grainers are pointed bullets right? so they probably have a ton better BC then your typical 200 grain pistol bullet. but then with heaving a 300 grainer out there it looks to be getting 45-70 rifle performance from a pistol. I think if i werent able to get those light weight pointed bullets like the hornady factory ammo Id probably go heavy unitll they were available for reloading.

asfar as light target ammo goes, i not real sure of all the details but my friend with the BFR in 450 marlin has a light load for the 450 marlin he uses in his bfr that pushes a 350 grain lead cast around 800 fps. I dont know the powder he uses but he uses backing rod from the hardware store as a filler to keep the powder against the primer. if you like I can talk to him and get the details if you are interested in knowing what he does.

HDW,I have been studying the bullistics, and sad to say I am dissappointed. That SST 200gr has a BC of 0.142. I was thinking it was .2 or higher

Also, you can't by the 200gr by itself, only factory ammo. So I am stuck with 200gr barnes or 240gr XTP. Figured I would stick with XTP mag.

Handloader mag just had a article and they only achieved 400fps slower than hodgdon's webpage but with a 7.5" barrel. Mine is 10.5".

I was gonna use those 200 grain barnes with harvester sabots in my muzzle loader they look like they would give some awesome trajectory but noway am I gonna shell out 19.99 for 20 when my 240 grain xtp mags are doing the trick at 17.99 for 100.

I know you are probably looking to load hunting loads, but i had a thought you may keep some factory loads around for hunting purposes. but for practice/plinking you could load up some 200 grain speer TMJ's I know the profile isnt the same but might be close enough to give similar trajectory atleast maybe close enough for practice atleast they would be the same grain weight and I know a TMJ can handle the velocity. I use the 230 grain TMJ's in my muzzle loader as practice/plinker projectiles they do pretty good ive taken a few jack rabbits out to 150 or so yards with them LOL.

I will look into it. Last speer I loaded was 4 years ago and that was grand slams. Then the gold dots for 357sig. Had dissappointing results from both.

That TMJ is a full metal jacket? Probably penetrate nice.

its a total metal jacket meaning the lead core is completely incased in copper, no exposed lead at the base like somany fmj's out there. they do penetrate nicely from my muzzle loader a 230 grainer over 2 pyrodex pellets at 100 yards penetrated through atleast a 1/4" thick cast iron griddle plate. I didnt think it would go through LOL!! i was wrong. I was trying to make homemade sillouettes. didnt work lol!!
